Pros and Cons of Shared Hosting
Posted October 20th, 2009
Shared hosting is a type of online services which offers customers a small portion of space on a digital server, through which they can publish and run their websites. Shared web hosting has a number of advantages and is ideal for individuals and small businesses who need a small to moderate amount of reliable and robust bandwidth:
· Costs – shared webhosting is much cheaper than managed hosting (one single dedicated server) so is suitable for those on a budget.
· Web Design – many shared hosting services also offer web design software, so that you can build and publish your website without having to purchase any additional software.
· Support – shared hosting companies provide good backup and support for their clients with IT help lines and customer services help desks offered online and telephone to help you set up and managed your website.
There are a few drawbacks to shared webhosting though, and the main one is that this type of set up does mean that many programs and services are interconnected and shared by other users, which can allow viruses and harmful malware to cross accounts and infect other websites on the shared server. Shared hosting is also not suitable for large companies who need a high level of bandwidth, as there are limitations on this with each shared account.
