Tips Before Buying A Domain Name – Domain Scams
Posted March 15th, 2009
Domain name reselling is big business, and there are many scams in this industry which can trap the unwary into parting with cash for items and services that are fake and worthless. Before you start looking for domain names make sure you do some research into potential rip offs and swindles, as this can help you to avoid some of the common scams in operation such as:
· Verify Authenticity of Buyer – before you buy a domain name verify the seller by emailing the contact address in the domains WHOIS information and wait until you get a response. Some sellers attempt to sell domain names that they do not actually own or have authority to represent.
· Traffic – if the seller claims that the domain name already has traffic asked for evidence of this in screen shots of stats pages, as this will help you to check the authenticity of the claims and the quality of the traffic.
· Stolen Names – if you are unsure of the authenticity of the domain name run a check through one of the domain name forums to ensure it has not been reported as stolen (namepros.com, dnforum.com or domainstate.com).
