UNIX vs. LINUX Web Hosting
Posted August 30th, 2009
Unix has been in operation for decades, and has a solid reputation for stability and reliability, backed up by some very powerful and secure servers. However Unix is very expensive, and is much more complex than other operating systems and will need some specialist IT and technical support, which means that Unix so is not very suitable for those with small budgets and small scale operating system needs.
Linux shares many of Unix’s main advantages and is stable, reliable and secure, but as it has been released as open source software it is much more cost effective, and is a more affordable choice for web hosting. However like Unix, Linux is also quite complicated and does have specialist IT and technical support requirements, and although Linux is growing more popular it is still not widely available and can be difficult to integrate into existing systems.
Conclusion
Unix has been around for years and is very secure and reliable, and ideal for big business needs. Linux is much more affordable, and is a good option for small scale needs.
